Biography

Ilkka Helanterä, MD, PhD, works as a transplant nephrologist at the Helsinki University Hospital abdominal transplant center and is an associate professor of nephrology at the University of Helsinki. His research interests include various aspects of kidney transplantation, such as drug development and outcomes, epidemiological research employing multiple health care registries, delayed graft function, and viral infections. He is involved in the activities of Scandiatransplant as a member of the council of representatives, and steering groups of acceptable mismatch and paired exchange programs, and was a managing committee member in the European Network of Collaboration on Kidney Exchange Programs. He is an associate editor for American Journal of Transplantation and Transplant International.
