Biography

Professor Eiji Kobayashi graduated from Jichi Medical University in Japan in 1982 and received a Ph.D. degree in 1989 from Niigata University.  He took office as a professor and director at Jichi Medical University in 2001. In 2020, he was appointed as a professor emeritus at Jichi Medical University, and in 2021, a project professor at The Jikei University School of Medicine.

Professor Kobayashi is a prominent surgeon specialized in liver transplant who has been working to optimize the microsurgical technique to live donor liver transplantation for over 20 years. Furthermore, he has pioneered to create one of the most effective tools for innovative medicine through maximizing world-first rat’s gene-modifying technology. The genetically modified rats developed by Professor Kobayashi have been effectively utilized at the state-of-the-art research institutes all over the world. With the motto in mind “Medical science has no boundaries, we centralize our efforts for suffering patients”, Professor Kobayashi is conducting numerous collaborative research with one of the top clinicians and researchers in the world.
