Professor Fay Bound Alberti is a historian of medicine and Director of the AboutFace project at the University of York: www.aboutfaceyork.com This UKRI funded project explores the international history of face transplants and VCA more generally. She regularly participates in media discussions about health, gender, emotion and the body, and is a TED speaker. Her books include Matters of the Heart: History, Medicine and Emotion (2010) and This Mortal Coil: The Human Body in History and Culture (2016) and A Biography of Loneliness: The History of an Emotion (2019). She is currently writing two books: one about the history of face transplants as a form of surgical innovation and another about the history and ethics of VCA.
