Robert J Porte, MD, PhD, is Professor of Surgery at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. He is a hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) and liver transplant surgeon, Chief of HPB-Surgery, Director of the Liver Transplant Program, and Chair of Groningen Transplant Center of the University Medical Center Groningen, in Groningen, The Netherlands.
Prof. Porte is a primary and co-investigator of several research projects in the field of organ transplantation, with special interest in machine preservation, biliary injury, hemostasis and intraoperative blood loss. He is a member of several scientific societies, including the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS) and the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT). He is past Secretary General of the European Liver and Intestine Transplantation Association (ELITA) and past President of the Netherlands Transplantation Society. Robert Porte is the author of more than 400 scientific publications and has contributed to more than 20 books. He has been an invited speaker on various aspects of liver surgery and transplantation at several scientific meetings.
