Professor Nadey Hakim GCSJ, MD, PHD, FRCS, FRCSI, FACS, FICS (HON), FRCSGlas (HON), FASMBS, FINS (HON), FIMSA (HON), 

Pioneering, award-winning and distinguished consultant general and transplant surgeon, Professor Nadey Hakim has consistently broken new ground throughout his career. A specialist in pancreas and kidney transplant surgery, he started the first Pancreas Transplant Programme in south-east England and pioneered the finger-assisted nephrectomy technique for streamlining kidney transplants. He was the British Surgeon on the International team which performed the world’s first successful arm transplant and was the first surgeon to be awarded the prestigious Max Thorek Professorship of Surgery. With over 200 peer-reviewed papers and 24 textbooks, he is also a prolific author and sought-after international speaker.

Professor Hakim gained his medical doctorate from Paris Descartes University and trained surgically at Guy’s Hospital. At the University of London, he obtained his PhD before completing a Gastrointestinal Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and a Transplant Fellowship at the University of Minnesota.

Currently the Imperial College President’s Envoy and Professor of Transplantation Surgery at London’s Imperial College and a transplant tutor at the London School of Surgery, Professor Hakim’s academic awards and professional achievements are extensive. They include: four honorary professorships at universities worldwide and several international visiting professorships. In 2007, he won the J. Wesley Alexander Prize for outstanding transplantation research.

Formerly World President of the International College of Surgeons, Vice President of the Royal Society of Medicine, a specialist transplant advisor to NICE and sits on The International Bariatric Surgery Review Committee.  He is a member of several professional organisations including the Honorary Member of the Association of Surgeons of India which is the highest award of this association and holds educational roles such as being an assessor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His editorial roles include having been Editor in Chief of International Surgery for 11 years before becoming Emeritus Editor. 

Currently Vice President of the International Medical Sciences Academy, VP of the British Red Cross and Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur.
