Dr. Gondolesi earned his M.D. from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of La Plata in Argentina. He went on to complete a residency in General Surgery at the Pavilion Finochietto of the "General San Martin" Hospital in La Plata. During his residency, he was also an assistant rotating resident in kidney transplant at the Institute of Solid Organ Transplant of the Jose Maria Mainetti Foundation and a researcher at the Organ Transplant Laboratory at the Faculty of Medical Sciences where he developed models of ischemia and reperfusion, and liver transplant in mice and pigs. He completed a fellowship in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation at the Favaloro Fundacion in Buenos Aires followed by a fellowship in Multiorgan Transplantation here at Mount Sinai. Among Dr. Gondolesi's many honors are the gold medal from the National University of La Plata as recognition for best graduating student, the La Plata Rotary Club Prize for performance in the field of Medicine in 1996 and the Professor Federico E. Christmann Prize for best paper at the Society of Surgery of La Plata. Among Dr. Gondolesi's many society memberships are the Argentine Association of Surgery, The American Association of Transplant Surgeons, The Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, and International Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic Association, as well as the American Medical Association. Dr. Gondolesi's areas of interest include adult and pediatric intestinal transplants, adult and pediatric liver transplant, specifically segmental liver transplant (living related liver transplants and splits.) After conducting the Intestinal Transplant Program at Mount Sinai he returned to Argentina in March 2006 where he will assume the position of Director, of the Intestinal Transplant and Rehabilitation program at Fundacion Favaloro. Dr. Gondolesi was distinguished with a position as Adjunct Assistant Professor in our institution to be able to develop joint efforts in intestinal transplantation
